Get more done in your workbook
Ask Leni questions across sheets, build linked summaries, and review proposed formulas, formatting, tables, or charts before applying them.
Get started
You need an eligible Leni account and a supported version of Excel. Active paid plans, trials, Student accounts, and Enterprise seats are supported. Leni plan allowances and usage charges apply. Visit leni.co to learn about accounts and plans. Installing the add-in does not purchase a Leni subscription. A Microsoft Copilot subscription is not required for this add-in.
- Open a workbook in Excel. If Leni is not installed, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator or contact Leni for the installation package. Your organization's add-in policy may require administrator approval.
- Select Home → Open Leni. If needed, find Leni for Excel under Home → Add-ins.
- Select Sign in to Leni. Complete sign-in in the separate window and review any requested permissions.
- Open Chat and describe the task. You do not need to select a range first.
Use a current Microsoft 365 version of Excel on Mac, Windows, or the web. Older Excel versions may support reading and portfolio imports but not workbook editing. Leni displays an explanation when the host does not support a requested operation.
Chat across your workbook
Try “Explain how the sheets in this workbook connect” or “Compare actuals with budget and propose a summary with linked formulas.” Follow up in the same chat to refine the result.
Leni can read relevant ranges, find formula errors, and propose changes across sheets. Open Review changes to inspect the proposed targets, values, and formulas. Select Apply changes only when you are ready. Chat proposals do not write to your workbook until you apply them.
If a relevant cell or sheet changed after the proposal, ask for a fresh proposal. Leni does not support every Excel operation; macros, sheet deletion, and external-data formulas are not supported.
AI answers and proposed formulas can be incorrect. Review results and calculations before relying on them.
The + button starts a new chat after asking you to confirm that the current conversation can be cleared. The ⋯ menu contains account information, Resume analysis, and Sign out. Reopening the pane starts a fresh chat and requires sign-in again.
Bring portfolio data into Excel
- Open Portfolio data.
- Select Preview occupancy by property, or expand Choose another portfolio metric to filter the data-model list and select a metric, grouping, and optional date range.
- Review the values, source, date, and any missing-data or partial-result warnings.
- Select Insert into new sheet to create a worksheet with the reviewed result.
Available portfolio data depends on the connections and permissions of your Leni account. An account without connected portfolio data can still use eligible workbook-chat features. You can cancel a portfolio request while it is loading.
Data and privacy
When you send a chat message, Leni receives your request and workbook sheet names and range metadata. As needed for the task, it reads bounded ranges containing values, displayed text, and formulas and sends that context to Leni for processing. The workbook file itself is not uploaded by this add-in.
The add-in requests permission to read and write the open workbook. Chat writes require you to apply a proposal; portfolio imports require Insert into new sheet. Portfolio access uses the signed-in user's Leni permissions.
OAuth tokens and the current chat remain in task-pane memory. Analysis records, responses, and operational data processed by Leni follow the applicable Leni policies and agreements. Closing the pane does not delete server-side records.
Read the Leni integration privacy notice and Leni terms and conditions. Use ⋯ → Sign out to disconnect the current pane. Contact Leni for privacy or deletion requests.
Troubleshooting
Leni is not visible in Excel
Check that your administrator assigned the add-in to the Microsoft account signed into Excel. Save your work and restart Excel if necessary. Organization deployments can take time to appear. Contact your administrator if add-ins are blocked.
Sign-in or connection expired
Allow the Leni sign-in window, then sign in again. If you closed it accidentally, select Sign in to Leni again. Never paste an API key or password into the chat.
Analysis allowance is unavailable
Check your plan and usage in Leni. Portfolio tools may remain available even when analysis allowance is exhausted.
A response stopped or a change could not be applied
Use Retry this step when offered. If Excel reports that a change may have been partially applied, inspect the workbook before asking for a new proposal. Leni does not automatically repeat a partially applied write.
Portfolio data takes too long
Choose a smaller date range or remove Group by, then retry. A result that reaches 100 rows is marked as partial before you insert it.
Retrieve an earlier analysis
Open ⋯ → Resume analysis, enter its Leni analysis ID, and select Retrieve analysis. This retrieves that analysis; it does not start it again. Resume analysis does not restore closed workbook-chat conversations.
Contact support
Email info@leni.co with your Excel platform/version, the action you tried, and the error text. Include an analysis ID if relevant. Do not send passwords, access tokens, or confidential workbook contents.
